Baby Steps
The universal Loving Kindness practice is short and sweet, and can be very beneficial after a "trying" day of dealing with others...after all, people aren't generally loving and kind in today's world which makes it easy to get frustrated. It actually reminded me of "counting to ten" when angry; however, relaxing the mind beforehand makes a huge difference! My Integral Assessment wasn't much of a surprise. Biologically, I need to lose the "winter weight" that I've gained, and the area of nutrition also needs some improvement. The pool will be up soon for swimming laps, but I definitely need to step up my exercise routine...with the unseasonably warm weather, I've been preparing garden beds and slacking on my exercise. Nutrition will soon see a boost with fresh vegetables from the garden! The Worldly and Spiritual areas of assessment are progressing nicely, it's the Interpersonal area that needs some cultivation. I'm working on "forgiveness", and I started with my neighbors...I now need to include some family members. Through self reflection, I'm discovering more issues to address and it all seems a bit overwhelming...at this point, I'll have to be satisfied with "baby steps"!

Hello Ami,
ReplyDeleteI had to face a lot of areas too. It was not fun, and choosing which to focus on first was hard also.
I think nutrition would be a good place to start for you because it would help you lose the winter weight. It would also supply the energy you need to increase your exercise routine.
In writing this, I am realizing this would be a good approach for me as well because I have gained a few pounds this winter too. I have not been physically active on a regular basis in over 3 years. ugh! How long has it been for you? Where will you begin- with cardio or strength?
I hope you are able to stay motivated and share your progress at the end of class in 4 weeks.
Angie
Taking small steps will help you reach your goals. I think making better eating choices and taking time to exercise will help in other areas of your life too. Good luck!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Ami, I believe baby steps are better than no steps at all. So many people focus on the negative in life instead of the positives. I find focusing on the positives to be uplifting which makes for a better day. I think physical fitness is important as well. I work out at least 5 days a week and do some sort of active on my rest days. If I am not active I tend to be moody which no one wants to see. :)
ReplyDeleteAmi- Many people have challenges with looking at things in a positive way. I talk with so many people daily that struggle with making changes in their lives. They want to do something to enhance their lifestyle, financial situation, and/or career, but they seem to be afraid of something; whether it's internal or external, they have fear. My parents raised me to believe I am capable of doing anything I set my mind to. This has helped me become the strong, confident, risk-taking woman I am today. You mentioned taking baby steps in your life; it is about taking small steps to attain that bigger goal. Good luck!
